Banana Pro, Getting and starting

After a month I have my Banana pro, if doesn’t work the fist time, now I got vacations and I tried it again.

I will share some tips because I waste my time and  maybe I can help you to do it easier.

If you Banana Pro doesn’t work:

  1. Try install Bananian and connect your board by in a LAN using DHCP  and try to connect to your banana by SSH. Remember root password is « pi ». verify If it doesn’t work check banana LEDs and try with another SD card.
  2. If you can SSH your banana but you can’t see it in your TV is because TVs have different features to image « improvement » after reading this about Panasonic TV  I discovered that disabling « MPEG Noise Reuction » option at Sony Bravia my Banana pro works.

About the HDMI cable:

In many forums I read about to have a very expensive one, it is not true in my case, I try with 4 different cables but the real problem was my SD card and my TV configuration, just now I’m using the cheapest one and It works.


config file for wi-fi essid and password:

$ wpa_passphrase ESSID password > /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf

NOTE:  Is better if you test it first and after you remove the wi-fi password comment line.

config file for wlan0 interface at /etc/network/interfaces

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
pre-up wpa_supplicant -B -iwlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
#pre-up echo nameserver > /etc/resolv.conf

Banana pro come with wi-fi, most times after a dhcp request by wi-fi or ethernet your /etc/resolv.conf is rewrited, if you don’t like it you can follow this link  I did this:

root@BananaPro ~ # cat /etc/dhcp/dhclient-enter-hooks.d/no-dns

Default gateway

The default gateway could be a problem if you have a different network for  ethernet and WiFi, I was searching for a clean solution and I found this one  in

Install ifmetric package:

# apt-get install ifmetric

Add the metric line after each dchp cofiguration line by interface:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
metric 0
pre-up wpa_supplicant -B -iwlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf
#pre-up echo nameserver > /etc/resolv.conf
pre-down killall -9 wpa_supplicant

metric 1
